Angel Drainer Crypto Phishing Now Focuses on TON & Tron

The notorious crypto phishing toolkit Angel Drainer has returned with an upgraded version called AngelX, making it even stealthier and easier to use. According to blockchain security firm Blockaid, AngelX has already launched 300 malicious decentralized applications (DApps) aimed at stealing digital assets from crypto users.

One of the concerning features of AngelX is its focus on newer, less secure blockchains like The Open Network (TON) and Tron. Blockaid explained that these chains are seen as more vulnerable due to weaker security tools.

Since its launch on August 31, over 150 new scams powered by AngelX have been detected. Blockaid highlighted the system’s high evasion rate, allowing many of these malicious apps to bypass detection by other security vendors.

The upgraded AngelX also features an improved user interface and control panel, enabling scammers to easily create custom phishing apps across a broader range of blockchains. Despite these advancements, Blockaid’s early detection efforts helped protect around $400,000 in assets within the first five days of AngelX’s operation.

Angel Drainer previously paused operations in mid-July after concerns that its developers’ identities had been exposed. Security analysts estimate that Angel Drainer scams have stolen approximately $25 million in crypto assets to date. Drainer toolkits allow scammers to drain users’ wallets by tricking them into approving malicious token transactions. In return, scammers often share a portion of the stolen funds with the toolkit providers.
