Watch Out! Ledger Users Targeted in New Phishing Scam
Ledger users, beware! Scammers are sending out fake emails claiming you need to enable a feature called “Ledger Clear Signing” by October 31 to keep using your device. But it’s a trick to steal your cryptocurrency.
The Scam Explained
The email says that activating this feature is mandatory for security, but the message comes from a fake source. Clicking the link in the email takes you to a malicious website where hackers can steal your account details. The email plays on the growing concern about fraud to convince you to act quickly—don’t fall for it!
Phishing Scams Are on the Rise
Phishing attacks are one of the fastest-growing threats in the crypto space. In September alone, scammers managed to steal $46 million in cryptocurrency. Earlier this year, one trader was tricked into transferring $71 million of their funds in a single phishing attack.
Why Ledger Users Are Targets
Ledger hardware wallets are popular for storing cryptocurrency, which makes their users a big target for scammers. Microsoft threat researcher Thomas Roccia called this a “very clean Ledger scam,” where the scammer’s link leads to a completely unrelated website.
Phishing Attacks Surge
Crypto phishing scams are becoming more frequent. In August, the number of phishing attacks jumped by over 215%, leading to $66 million in stolen digital assets. Most of that came from just one big attack, where $55 million was taken in a single scam.
