FTX Fallout: Final Sentencing Approaches for Key Executives

The former engineering director of FTX pleaded guilty in February 2023 to six felony charges, including various forms of fraud and conspiracy. Alongside him, Caroline Ellison, the former Alameda Research CEO, and Gary Wang, an FTX co-founder, provided testimony against Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) during his trial in October 2023.

SBF has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after being convicted, but his lawyers have filed an appeal to contest the verdict. Another executive, Salame, received a 90-month sentence and started serving time on October 11.

It’s still unclear what Judge Kaplan will decide regarding Singh’s sentencing. His lawyers have requested a sentence of time served, but there’s no guarantee the judge will agree. Prosecutors have noted Ellison’s cooperation during her sentencing, which resulted in a two-year prison term for her.

Gary Wang is scheduled for sentencing on November 20. He may be the last individual from the FTX case to face prison time, marking over two years since the cryptocurrency exchange collapsed.
