Chris Giancarlo Says He’s Not Replacing Gensler at SEC

“Crypto Dad” Shuts Down Rumors

Chris Giancarlo, nicknamed “Crypto Dad” for his pro-blockchain views, has dismissed claims he could take over as SEC Chair. On Nov. 14, he posted on X:

“I’ve already cleaned up Gensler’s mess at the CFTC and don’t want to do it again.”

Giancarlo, who led the CFTC from 2014 to 2019, also shot down rumors about taking on a crypto-related role at the Treasury.

What’s Next for Gensler?

Speculation about Gensler’s future is growing after Donald Trump’s election win. Trump promised to fire Gensler on day one, but legal challenges could make that difficult.

It’s common for SEC chairs to step down when a new administration takes over, and while Gensler hasn’t confirmed his exit, he’s hinted it may be coming.

Possible Replacements

Trump’s team is reportedly considering several candidates for SEC Chair, including:

Dan Gallagher: Former SEC commissioner and now at Robinhood.

Mark Uyeda: Current SEC commissioner and outspoken critic of Gensler’s crypto policies.

Paul Atkins: Trump ally and former SEC commissioner.

Robert Stebbins: Former SEC general counsel and current law firm partner.
