Partial Crypto Payments Allowed
A new bill in Brazil aims to regulate salary payments in cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. If passed, employers could pay workers in BTC, but at least 50% of wages must still be in Brazilian real.
Legislation Details
Introduced by Federal Deputy Luiz Philippe de Orleans e Bragança, the bill (PL 957/2025) allows voluntary crypto salary payments while capping them at half of an employee’s wages. Full crypto payments would only be permitted for independent contractors and expatriate workers.
Government Oversight on Conversions
The bill requires all crypto salary conversions to follow exchange rates set by institutions authorized by Brazil’s Central Bank. This ensures stability and compliance with financial regulations.
