Cryptopia Starts Paying Back Hack Victims

The Hack That Started It All
Back in January 2019, Cryptopia, a major crypto exchange in New Zealand, was hacked, losing $16 million in crypto. This led to the company’s bankruptcy, and Grant Thornton took over to handle the liquidation.

Payouts Begin for Users
On December 20, 2024, Grant Thornton started sending out at least $225 million in crypto to over 10,000 users who were affected by the hack. The payouts included Bitcoin (BTC) and Dogecoin (DOGE), totaling 400 million New Zealand dollars.

More Payments Coming Soon
This is just the first round of payouts. More are expected in the New Year, and users who missed the initial deadlines might still get their full share. If you’re a Cryptopia user, make sure you register so you don’t miss out on future payments.

The Process Continues
The liquidation process has been underway since 2020, and these payouts are a big step in getting affected users their funds back. Grant Thornton is making sure everyone who qualifies gets paid.
