Lomond School Becomes First in UK to Accept Bitcoin for Tuition

Scotland Boarding School Embraces BTC

Lomond School, a private boarding school in Helensburgh, Scotland, is now the first school in the UK to accept Bitcoin for tuition payments. Starting in Autumn 2025, families can pay fees in BTC, a move the school says aligns with its forward-thinking values.

The headteacher, Claire Chisholm, announced the change at a crypto conference. She said the decision came after several families — local and international — requested crypto payment options. The school believes it helps reduce currency risks for students coming from abroad.

BTC, But Fully Compliant

To stay on the right side of UK law, Lomond won’t hold the Bitcoin. Instead, payments will be instantly converted to British pounds. This setup helps the school avoid Bitcoin’s price swings and comply with anti-money laundering and tax rules.

The school has partnered with CoinCorner and Musqet — two FCA-registered crypto firms — to handle the process.

Not New to Innovation

Lomond isn’t new to bold moves. It was the first Scottish boarding school to go fully co-ed, and it also adopted the International Baccalaureate program early. Now, it’s diving into digital finance with a splash.

Chisholm called the move part of the school’s mission to develop “open-minded risk-takers” — something you’d expect from students now paying tuition via blockchain.
