Changpeng Zhao, former CEO of Binance, expressed concerns over Europe’s slow adoption of cryptocurrencies during his speech at the Token2049 conference in Dubai on April 30, 2025. He noted that, with the exception of Montenegro, most European nations are lagging behind the U.S. and Asia in embracing digital currencies. Zhao highlighted that while regions like the UAE are adopting crypto-friendly policies, Europe appears to be inactive in this regard.
Zhao’s remarks come amid Europe’s implementation of the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation, which aims to provide a unified legal framework for crypto assets across the EU. While MiCA is seen as a step forward, Zhao believes that Europe’s overall approach to crypto adoption remains insufficient compared to other regions.
