Pavel Durov Launches “Cocoon” — A Decentralized AI Network on TON

Telegram’s co-founder takes on Big AI
Pavel Durov, the man behind Telegram, has revealed a bold new project — a decentralized AI network called Cocoon, powered by The Open Network (TON) blockchain. The goal: give users access to smart AI tools without handing over their private data to tech giants.

AI meets decentralization
Speaking at the Blockchain Life 2025 event in Abu Dhabi, Durov said Cocoon will let people share their GPU computing power with the network in exchange for Toncoin (TON) rewards. He called it a step toward protecting “digital freedom,” warning that the world has been slowly losing privacy for the past two decades.

Why decentralize AI?
Centralized AI services often store massive amounts of user data, creating juicy targets for hackers. They can also manipulate algorithms or censor information behind the scenes. Developers argue that decentralizing AI fixes this — data stays verifiable, public, and tamper-proof.

Blockchain as the truth machine
Using blockchain, Cocoon will record data origins and updates on an open ledger. That means no secret changes, no silent edits — just transparent AI. It’s like putting AI under a public microscope, powered by crypto.

Footnotes:

GPU (Graphics Processing Unit): hardware used for high-speed computing.

Toncoin: the native cryptocurrency of The Open Network blockchain.

Decentralization: distributing power away from a single authority.
