DOGS Airdrop Slowed Telegram Wallet and Exchange Services

The Telegram bot DOGS leverages the TON (The Open Network) blockchain, created by Telegram’s founder Pavel Durov, who was recently arrested. The bot was designed to reward the Telegram community for their loyalty by distributing $DOGS tokens based on account age and task completion.

Several major Tier 1 exchanges, including Gate.io, ByBit, OKX, and Bitget, initially announced that $DOGS would be listed on August 23. However, the team later postponed the listing date and announced that Binance would also list $DOGS on August 26.

On the day of listing, the MEXC exchange unexpectedly listed $DOGS just an hour before the scheduled listings by the other five exchanges. The $DOGS price on MEXC was set at $0.01, which attracted attention from the 10 million DOGS users. However, users faced difficulties withdrawing their tokens from other exchanges to MEXC, leading them to perform on-chain transactions and swaps within the Telegram wallet to claim their tokens and transfer them to MEXC.

This led to a heavy request load from the 10 million users, causing the Telegram wallet to operate less smoothly than usual (Source). The TON network became highly congested due to the influx of transactions, and exchanges like Binance and Bybit also experienced errors. Bybit acknowledged the situation in a tweet, highlighting the disruption.

Service Update: We’re thrilled to announce that our app and web platform are fully operational again! The temporary disruption occurred due to an unprecedented surge in user activity during the $DOGS token listing. We understand how important a smooth trading experience is, and our team worked swiftly to resolve the issue. If you’re still facing any difficulties, we recommend refreshing your app or web browser to ensure you’re fully up to date. Thank you for your support and patience as we continue to improve.

These disruptions in the Telegram wallet and Tier 1 exchanges underscore the intense demand for Telegram bots. Despite the arrest of Telegram’s founder and the challenges faced by the DOGS bot, it successfully rewarded users. This has led to high expectations from other popular Telegram-based earning bots, like Hamster Kombat, which also boast large communities with participants optimistic about their potential rewards.
