MetaMask Finally Brings Native Bitcoin Support

MetaMask has taken a big step by adding native Bitcoin support inside its wallet. Users can now buy, send, receive, and swap BTC without leaving the app. This update arrives ten months after the feature was first teased, testing the patience of users who really like orange coins.

Until now, Bitcoin inside MetaMask came with training wheels. Users had to rely on wrapped Bitcoin, which lives on other blockchains and adds extra risk. Native support removes that layer and lets Bitcoin act like Bitcoin, slow confirmations and all.

MetaMask reminds users that Bitcoin transactions take more time than Ethereum-based networks or Solana. That delay comes from Bitcoin’s proof-of-work system, which prioritizes security over speed.* Once confirmed, BTC balances show directly in the wallet like any other asset.

The wallet is also pushing adoption with rewards. Users who swap into Bitcoin earn MetaMask reward points, turning BTC into both a store of value and a loyalty perk. The move signals MetaMask’s goal to become a true multichain wallet, not just an Ethereum sidekick.

Wrapped Bitcoin: A token that represents BTC on another blockchain
Proof-of-work: A system where miners secure the network using computing power
