The X accounts of two of the Trump family members were hacked on Tuesday by scammers who sought to leverage them for pushing a scam related to the World Liberty Financial token, a project that was announced earlier by the Trump family. The project had not been launched yet when the scam took place.
The scammers used the accounts of Lara Trump and Tiffany Trump, in order to post a message that contained a fake address for the World Liberty Financial token on the Solana network. Any attempts to use the contract address or import it into their wallet would result in a total loss of all funds that were sent to that particular Solana token.
In networks such as Ethereum and Solana, an address can be used to store multiple tokens in addition to the base currency, which means that the scam was exposed to all Solana wallets that allowed custom tokens to be imported.
It is not known how many people had used the fake contract address, however the tweets had received tens of thousands of views each. However, Eric Trump and the official World Liberty Financial accounts confirmed the hack on their X accounts, following an announcement by the latter that it was a scam.
The World Liberty Financial project was described by Donald Trump on the Truth Social platform, who is running for president of the United States, as “for too long, the average American has been squeezed by the big banks and financial elites. It’s time we take a stand — together.”
