Tron to Introduce ‘Gas Free’ USDT Transactions

No More TRX Needed for Fees

Tron founder Justin Sun announced that the blockchain will launch a Gas Free feature for Tether’s USDT within a week. This update will allow users to send USDT on Tron without needing TRX to cover transaction fees.

Sun invited wallet providers and developers to collaborate with JustLend, Tron’s official lending platform, to integrate the new feature.

Tron’s Rising USDT Fees

Tron was once the cheapest way to transfer USDT, but fees have surged. According to Tether’s GasFeesNow, the cost of TRC-20 USDT transactions recently ranged from $3.20 to $6.50, compared to $0.40 on Ethereum’s ERC-20 network. At its peak in December 2024, fees even surpassed $9 per transaction.

Tron’s Push for Lower Costs

To address complaints about high costs, Tron has been working on a gas-free solution since mid-2024. Sun previously said that reducing transaction fees would help large companies adopt stablecoin services, further pushing blockchain adoption.

A JustLend spokesperson confirmed that an official statement on the Gas Free feature is expected soon.
