Bitget Wallet, a provider of non-custodial crypto wallets, has announced a new integration that will open Telegram’s Mini Apps to the broader Web3 ecosystem. This will be achieved through a software development kit (SDK) called OmniConnect. This integration allows developers to connect Telegram Mini Apps with multiple blockchain networks, including TON, Solana, and Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) chains.
How It Works
Telegram Mini Apps will now be able to interact with various blockchains through Bitget Wallet, making it easier for users to sign and transact across different networks. Previously, these apps were limited to connecting only with the TON blockchain. With this upgrade, Telegram is set to become a more versatile entry point for Web3 applications.
Interoperability for Telegram Mini Apps
Before this integration, Telegram Mini Apps were restricted to interacting with The Open Network (TON). Now, Bitget Wallet believes it has transformed Telegram into a “gateway to Web3,” easing the shift from Web2 to Web3. Alvin Kan, Bitget Wallet’s Chief Operating Officer, highlighted that the OmniConnect SDK closes the gap by enabling seamless interaction across multiple blockchain networks.
Building a More Open Web3
Kan also expressed enthusiasm for the potential of developers and various ecosystems to contribute to creating a more open Web3 environment on Telegram. Bitget Wallet has also promised future initiatives aimed at further supporting the Telegram Mini App ecosystem.
The Push for Crypto Interoperability
Interconnected Web3
As the Web3 space moves toward mainstream adoption, projects are increasingly focused on achieving interoperability between various blockchain ecosystems. This trend allows for smoother cross-chain operations, enhancing usability.
Ethereum’s Solutions for Interoperability
On August 6, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin shared new ideas aimed at solving the ongoing interoperability issues within the Ethereum network. He hinted that these solutions may bring unexpected developments for the blockchain community.
1inch Network’s Cross-Chain Feature
Similarly, on September 18, the decentralized exchange aggregator 1inch announced a feature enabling cross-chain swaps. This uses both off-chain and on-chain liquidity to facilitate crypto transactions between different blockchains.
Hemi Network’s Tunnels for Ethereum and Bitcoin
Bitcoin core developer Jeff Garzik launched the Hemi Network to bridge Ethereum and Bitcoin using a technology called tunnels. These tunnels allow assets to move between the two blockchains without needing traditional cross-chain bridges, potentially revolutionizing how these networks interact.
TON-Based Wallet Supporting Tron Blockchain
On September 23, MyTonWallet, a wallet based on the TON blockchain, revealed plans to support assets on the Tron blockchain, further contributing to the growing push for blockchain interoperability.
Simplified Terms:
SDK (Software Development Kit): A collection of tools and programs used by developers to create software for specific platforms.
Blockchain: A digital ledger system that records transactions across many computers in a decentralized manner.
Web2/Web3: Web2 refers to the current, user-interactive web (like social media), while Web3 is the next generation, decentralized web based on blockchain technology.
