Ethereum developers have confirmed the Pectra upgrade will go live on April 8, 2025, after successful testnet trials. The upgrade aims to enhance validator participation and network performance.
Pectra Upgrade Timeline and Testing
The launch date was finalized during the Ethereum Core Developers Call #205. Originally expected in March, the upgrade was delayed for additional testing. Before its mainnet release, Pectra will activate on the Holesky and Sepolia testnets on February 24 and March 5, respectively.
Fusaka Upgrade and Future Plans
Following Pectra, discussions continue on the next upgrade, Fusaka. Developers are debating the final scope, with some advocating for a phased rollout. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has also confirmed internal restructuring within the Ethereum Foundation to address governance issues.
Market Impact
Despite the upgrade news, Ethereum’s price saw only a slight increase, trading at $2,709, up 1.17% since Friday’s market session.
