Polygon is rolling out a major hard fork this Thursday. Called Heimdall 2.0, it’s the most technical upgrade since Polygon launched.
According to Polygon Foundation CEO Sandeep Nailwal, this update replaces old parts of the network from 2018-2019 with better infrastructure.
The goal? Faster finality, smoother experience, and easier upgrades down the line.
What’s Changing?
The new Heimdall 2.0 update speeds up finality to just 5 seconds. It also reduces chances of chain reorganizations, making the network more stable and bridges safer.
📝 Finality is the point where a transaction is permanently recorded on the blockchain.
🔄 Chain reorganization happens when blocks are replaced due to delays or conflicts.
Validators: Time to Upgrade
Nailwal said most validators already updated, but warned others to get ready fast.
“This should be our smoothest upgrade ever,” he posted. The upgrade will take around 30 minutes. Scripts and instructions are already out.
He also warned that during the process, finality will be delayed by up to 3 hours. That’s normal, but node operators and users should stay alert.
A New Chapter for Polygon
This upgrade follows a big shift in leadership. On June 11, Sandeep Nailwal became the first official CEO of the Polygon Foundation.
He now leads Polygon Labs as the space heats up with fierce competition in layer-2 solutions.
Nailwal says it’s time to build faster, focus harder, and move with full conviction.
