Emirates is making a big crypto move. The airline just signed a deal with Crypto.com to bring crypto payments to passengers.
MoU Signed in Dubai
The agreement was signed by Emirates’ top execs and Crypto.com’s UAE head. It all happened under the watch of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum. This partnership aims to let travelers pay for flights with cryptocurrency.
Why This Matters
Emirates says this supports Dubai’s goal of becoming a fintech hub. The airline wants to offer more payment options to its customers. Crypto.com Pay will be added to Emirates’ system by the end of 2025.
What Happens Next
Crypto.com says phase one will focus on tech setup and making sure everything is compliant. Once ready, Emirates may test it on certain routes before going global.
Don’t expect Emirates to become a Bitcoin whale, though. Crypto payments will convert instantly to dirhams (AED). Emirates won’t hold crypto directly—just regular cash in the end.
Real-time exchange rates: Crypto values at checkout will match real-world prices.
Bigger Crypto Push in Dubai
Dubai is betting big on blockchain. Real estate deals, telecom services, and now airlines are all embracing crypto.
Earlier this year, Tether helped bring USDt to UAE property sales. And Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin just got approved by Dubai’s regulator.
Over 600 crypto firms are already operating in Dubai. The city’s turning into a digital finance powerhouse.
