Tether’s CEO Paolo Ardoino revealed plans to launch an open-source Bitcoin mining operating system by Q4 2025. This move will let new miners join without expensive middlemen.
The OS, called MOS, is designed to be modular and scalable. It uses a peer-to-peer Internet of Things setup. It will work with current mining gear, including containers and power devices.
This project fits Tether’s push for more decentralization in Bitcoin mining. Earlier this year, they teamed up with Ocean pool to spread out block building power.
Big miners have an edge due to scale and cheap power deals. But many are diversifying by using their gear for AI or selling parts of their operations to focus on Bitcoin.
For example, Hive Digital now earns more from AI than mining, and Bitcoin miner Cango sold off old business parts to focus on mining only.
