Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has shared his vision for the network’s future, focusing on enhancing scalability, privacy, and decentralization. This announcement coincides with a significant milestone: the Ethereum ecosystem has surpassed 15.4 million unique active addresses, with nearly 13.45 million engaging through layer-2 protocols.
In his April 30 post on Farcaster, Buterin highlighted several key areas for development:
Single-Slot Finality: Aiming to reduce transaction confirmation times to under 12 seconds, enhancing user experience.
Statelessness: Transitioning Ethereum nodes to operate without storing the full state, instead using witnesses with each transaction to improve scalability.
Enhanced Privacy: Implementing solutions to bolster user privacy on the network.
Decentralized Infrastructure: Strengthening the network’s resilience and reducing reliance on centralized intermediaries.
Beyond protocol upgrades, Buterin emphasized the importance of improving the Ethereum ecosystem’s social and governance structures. This includes developing better encrypted messaging systems, enhancing software documentation, and exploring new communication tools.
These initiatives reflect Buterin’s commitment to realizing Ethereum’s potential as a decentralized platform that prioritizes security, privacy, and user empowerment.
