Hackers Target Korea’s Elite
Seoul police busted an international cyber gang that looted $28M from wealthy Koreans. Victims included BTS star Jungkook, executives, and investors.
How They Pulled It Off
The crew broke into government and bank websites to steal data. They used this info to make 100 fake phone accounts, bypassing security and draining wallets.
The Big Numbers
They profiled 258 rich targets but attacked only 26. Sixteen lost funds. The biggest single crypto theft hit $15.4M. Banks stopped another $18M before it left.
Jungkook’s Case
Hackers even tried to steal $6.1M in Hybe stock during his military enlistment. Luckily, bank systems flagged it and blocked the transfer.
Police Response
Authorities froze $9.2M and returned it to victims. Two Chinese ringleaders were caught in Bangkok with Interpol’s help. One faces 11 charges in Korea.
Expert Warnings
“This proves international gangs are targeting Korean elites,” said Rich O. from OneKey. He called for stronger ID checks and global police cooperation.
