Tokenized markets land inside MetaMask
MetaMask is expanding beyond crypto by adding tokenized US stocks, ETFs, and commodities. The rollout uses Ondo Global Markets and runs on Ethereum for eligible users.
Non-US users can access around two hundred tokenized assets, including shares and metals like gold. These assets live onchain and move like crypto inside the wallet.
How the system works
Users swap USDC for Ondo GM tokens directly inside MetaMask. Each token mirrors a real-world asset at a one-to-one value without holding the asset itself.
The process removes brokers and fixed trading hours. Users keep control of their wallet while switching between crypto and traditional markets with fewer steps.
Mobile first, desktop next
The feature launches on MetaMask mobile only. Desktop access will arrive later in February through a browser extension.
Consensys says legacy finance still relies on slow systems. Tokenized assets inside a self-custodial wallet show a cleaner path forward for global access.
Region limits apply
The rollout excludes users in thirty regions, including the US, UK, and European Economic Area. MetaMask enforces limits using location checks and IP data.
Footing:
Tokenized assets: Blockchain tokens that track real-world assets like stocks or gold.
Self-custodial wallet: A wallet where users control their own private keys.
