Bank of America Supports 1%–4% Crypto Allocation, Opens Bitcoin ETFs

BoA Embraces Crypto for Wealth Clients

Bank of America now recommends a 1%–4% crypto allocation for wealth management clients. Platforms include Merrill, Bank of America Private Bank, and Merrill Edge. This marks a shift in institutional adoption.

Access to Bitcoin ETFs

Starting January 5, BoA clients can access four Bitcoin ETFs: Bitwise Bitcoin ETF (BITB), Fidelity’s Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC), Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust (BTC), and BlackRock iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT). Previously, only select clients could invest.

Risk-Managed Guidance

BoA emphasizes regulated products, thoughtful allocation, and understanding risk. Chief Investment Officer Chris Hyzy notes small allocations suit investors comfortable with volatility and innovation.

Institutional Appetite Grows

BlackRock first recommended 2% Bitcoin allocations in 2024. Fidelity suggested 2%-5%, and Morgan Stanley recommended 2%-4%. Large institutions are creating a shared framework for modest, risk-managed crypto exposure.

Footing: ETF = Exchange-Traded Fund, a type of investment fund traded on stock exchanges.
